Aeschling..the beloved Ash Man

The Ash Tree,Father of the Woods..perhaps one of the most beautiful of all British trees..and perhaps one of the most magically charged.A fully matured ash tree,complete with it's crop of golden brown  keys is certainly a sight to behold.

And a tree with a complex and ancient magical/spirtual association..commonly accepeted as the World Tree of the Germanic peoples,this is a tree that stands with it's roots in the Well of Wyrd..and it's branches in the cosmic realms.The cosmic axis,the tree of interconnection.There are Nine Worlds within the branches of this tree,mythology tells us..and great knowledge in the Well that feeds it's roots.So much knowledge in fact, that the Allfather hung from it's branches for nine days in order to access it.

But perhaps all that is nothing more than mythology.The fact remains that the Ash has held great magical power in traditional crafts as far as one might care to rememeber.

A tree of great benevolance,like any Father,and  a tree of great protection.A tree to defend it's children from dis-ease of any form..wether that be physical or spiritual.and a tree of great magical power..or perhaps that should be empowerment.

Strength,flexibility,the ability to bear great burdens without giving in or complaining..ash was the wood commonly chosen for cart wheels and axels,because of it's strength and flexibiluty,and for arrow and spear shafts,even for bows,beacuse of it's suppleness and lightness of weight,so much so that the Germanic settlers were commonly referred to as Aeschlings..Ash Men.

The Ash is related to the element of fire so it's magic is of the projective variety,the manifested variety.Fraxinus..firelight,the domestic hearth fire..perhaps because ash wood will burn when still green.A powerful masculine presence,yet not an overly aggressive presence.The Just Warrior,the defender..the Father of generations.

For those who would be strong,magically powerful....yet would not wish to loose their hearts and souls.
