Suncross Hazel Wood Wand

Small dark wood hazel wand bearing the SunCross..

The sun cross is closely related to the Sunwheel,and is an ancient symble common to many cultures dating back to prehistoric rock carving.Symbolic of the cycle of the seasons,perpetual renewal,rebirth and continuity,a very powerful symbol indeed.

This wand has a small piece of bark removed to hosue the sumbol near the top. A beautifully rich dark wood,heavily grained and patterned.

Now there are many many versions of the sun Cross..this is the one used here at the Owl Yard..the Sun at it's Apex..the high noon sun..or the midsummer sun lain over the Goblins Cross.

The horse..a vehicle of soul travel in both Germanic and Celtic traidtion..folklore is rife with tales of the horse that travels between worlds..Sleipnir,or the weer white horse made of sea spray and forest mists,the Windhorse....spectural horses that might whisk their riders between worlds...and the rider who might travel from one to another.

Shaman

A unique piece..air dried naturally wavered hazel wood.Now this wood has dried exposed to the open air for a long time whilst being protected from the damp and frost...this process has enabled the wood to retain it's naturall colouring and smooth finish.

And a gorgeous thing it is as well...dark hazel ranging in colour from golden brown to green tinged dark brown and still retaining all the natural characteritsics of it's bark,including the paler flecks and spots that are common to hazel wood.

We have crafted two of these wands..and they are both poweful strong and formidable pieces..not simply physically,but also magically.

Each is strung on a black and red handbraided cord decorated with three raven feathers.

The runic symbols date from medieval times and were used when the runic staves were banned from public use by the Christian church.Each symbol represents three of the original Futhark staves combined and bound in power.These symbols were commonly used for magic and healing yet not for divination.

Beauifully crafted gnarled and pigmented old hazel wood..a gorgeous wand,strong an sturdy and so heavily gnarled as to appear wavered.

This piece measures a touch under 40cms in length and is just on 7cms in circumference.It has been fitted with a small copper ring and a handbraided tri colour cord.

A fine strong and very powerful wood.Not a pretty hazel wand..not something for waving delicatley at the altar..but perhaps something much rawer altogether.

This is old wood,full of serpentine power,a shaman's wood..for seething and spinning..for boiling the blood.A wonderfully characteristic wand with prominant gnarling..scarred and yet strong..a real handful of magic of the most primal kind.

A really wonderful piece measuring 41cms in length and 6cms in circumference.this piece has been fitted with a copper ring and a tri cooloured handbraided cord.

A second wand taken at the same time..this piece being crafted so that the wood nearest the roots of the tree forms the tip.Thicker and heavier towards the end ,beautifully balanced and really lovely example of older hazel.characteristic gnarling and a light dusting of golden brown pigmentation.

This piece measures 47cms in length and just over 6cms in circumference at the handle,7cms at the tip.

Halsing Pole

Five foot tall naturally forked hazel wood Halsing Pole.

One of the enhazelling poles that normally encircle a sacred stead for the rites of Utiseta (sitting out) or spaed.

This is a hazel wood warding pole..and on it ,in runic stave,it bears a Halsing song..or an invitation.and what it says determines the course of the rite.

 

A Halsing song is an invitation,a Galdr,if you like,that is most often "sung" by the wards to invite specific entities to the stead..and debarr others.It will also set down just what it is that the seer wishes to discover.

This halsing is a general one..and is used to access information relating to the near future,information relating to how the tribe/family/group will fare in the near future.But in order to decide the near future,you must also access the past..and how deeds or events of the past are affecting the present,and in turn,how the present will affect the future.

Complicated? Well that's exactley why a seer must seek his/her information from trustworthy sources..and exactley why he/she does not issue an open invitation but restricts those who are invited.

So you see,this is not a request to determine the outcome or effect of  a set event or a specific something..but a request for a general forecast of events,both good and bad that will affect the seer or the seer's immediate circle in the near future..most usually from dark moon to dark moon.

This is a handcrafted piece,painstaking stripped,risted and varnished to protect it from the elements..and finally bound with a tri coloured cord,though you might decorate it any way you find significant.

 Hazel Warding Wand

Beautiful natural finish hazel wood warding wand.

This piece bears a sinle bindrune of the Wolfsangel rune stave and Elhaz..perhaps the most powerfully protective rune stave of the Elder Futhark.The Wolfsangel stave binds the protective power of the Elhaz stave and together they create a magical barrier that nothing may cross.

This piece measures 49cms in length and just over 5.5 cms in circumference.Angle cut to the top,it's simply finished and bears all the characteristic features of hazel wood with a soft satin varnish.

This piece is strung on a tri coloured hand braided cord.

A beautifully crafted piece..hazel wood stripped of it's outer bark but still retaining it's wonderful characteristic gnarling and pigmentation.

At each end of this rod,on opposite sides is a bindrune of the two most powerful shamanic rune staves..Raidho and Ehwaz..

 

A wonderful piece for those who like riding the shamanic horse between worlds...

Hazel Stick Runes

Traditional hazel wood stick runes..as opposed to standard disc runes.

Stick runes are older in origin than disc runes..and these are beautiful things.Clear easy to read staves scribed in nautral pigments onto stripped hazel wood,yet wood that still retains it's characteristic features including golden pigmentation and gnarling.

As these are totally natural and completley hand crafted,the individual runes will vary slightly in thickness.Each set has three fine coats of resin based varnish and is very durable.You can cast or throw these runes as you will without fear of them shattering or chipping..as you should be able to.

Of course each set is crafted in one sitting by a practising hel-runer from one long hazel stave,as tradition dictates.The wood is cut by ourselves and crafted  completeley by hand..without the use of any mechanical machinery.
