Mythology tells us that the Sea Goddess,the Mother of the Waves, has nine daughters,and her daughters take the forms of waves.Both benevolent and malicous,gentle and violent,capable of  drawing men from their homes with their lulling songs or their wild singing.They say that once a man succumbs to their lapping voices he is lost to the sea,and will never settle on dry land again.

And mythology tells us that the most notorious of these daughters is the ninth..to meet the ninth daughter,the Ninth Wave  can be a dangerous encounter..and also a very enlightening encounter.for beyond her lies the unknown..the Other world.Tir Na Nog,the Islands of the Dead..the Apple Isles..Annwn.Seafarers would once tell the ninth wave is the most dangerous of all,capable of sinking any boat and taking all lives down into their watery embrace.

On these wild shores,when the wind rises and the sea rages,when the gulls scream and the seals seek refuge in deep water,you would do well to remember their tales.

This is a range of items crafted from the things the sea leaves behind... trinkets left to tempt us,sea jewels to enchant us...things we can only ever wonder about.

Beautiful sets of the 24  elder futhark rune staves,hand scribed onto natural sea stones collected on the rugged shores of Ynys Mon.

Smoothed by the countless tides and the shifting of the sea.Pebbles that were once mountains that were once beneath the sea..it seems they have come full circle..a fitting testament to the phenomenal powers of the sea..and the land.And the strange magical stretch of sand that lies between both.A beach,it seems,is never just a stretch of sand..it's a gateway between the land and the sea.On this strange strip of land,when the sea mists roll and the eldritch,magical light that is found nowhere else suddenly shines,we've collected these stones and crafted them into a powerful force for divination and magic.

Sometimes serene and placid,sometimes stormy and restless,always unpredicatble,these sea stone runes may well take you beyond the Ninth Wave..and return you safely to shore,possessed of a knowledge many dream of...but few ever find.

Nine Moons Black Mirror

Beautiful larger sized scrying mirror set with sea shells,crab claw,sea glass and sea weed...and nine large rainbow moonstones...three at the top and two on each of the other sides.Gorgeous moonstones in various shapes which flash blue,green and purple in the light.

                                

 

At the bottom right hand corner,set into an oyster shells is a small polished ammonite section,approx 160 million years old.

Perhaps it's not obvious initially but there is more to this mirror than meets the eye.

The nine moonstones are designed as a system of time..begining at the top left of the mirror the stones mark the passage of time before a work might be considered completed.Nine is the most powerful number in traditional crafts and nine moons,nine days..even nine times are set periods of "magical" timing.So in this mirror you might set a working..and count down it's completetion whilst watching it's progression.The ammonite is not simply a decorative addition,it's presence represents time past..that which has become..and that which will influence the present,and the future events you might be creating.

Past,present and future.That  which has become, is becoming and is obliged to be.But what will be could well depend on how you influence the present.This mirror may well give you the insight that will allow you to influence the future in your favour.

Spectacular handcrafted oblong black mirror,a wonderful piece,aptly named..for this mirror bears the complete set of Elder futhark rune staves scribed onto sea stones set amongst a myriad of sea shells,sea glass,snail shells,driftwood,black obsidian,hematite,quartz crystal,elder and sloe berries,alder cones...and the odd bleached bone,washed up by the tide.

 

   

Welcome to the world of the Hel-runer...shapeless and shifting,where the land and the sea cease to exist as seperate forces,that strange country between the unformed and the manifested,a world where the runic forces are not simply just symbols on stones.

       

This is a wild mirror..untamed you might say,primal even..it bears no bright shining reflective glass..but instead a matt black opaque finish,akin to a deep black hole.It reflects nothing of the world about you,there are no distractions,no shadows of the commonplace world,instead,by candlelight ,you might peer into the darkness of the world beneath..whatever you see comes willingly to the surface,to the edge of the otherworld.After all, a mirror is nothing but a gateway,we look into our mirrors..never knowing we are also being looked at.

Stunning drifwood oak natural sculpture.

This is a wonderfully magical piece..old oak wood recovered from the sea,beautifully gnarled,twisted and coloured by the wind and the waves.

And a strange piece,loaded with dreams..or even nightmares.

This is the Ferryman,named after it's appearance in a dream..or even a vision.

 

And the dream showed a longboat sailing at night in a sea storm,and that boat bore a klaboutermannikin..or figurehead in the form of a twisted skeletal horned dragon...exactley like this piece.Now a klaboutermannikin is a Germanic derived supernatural guardian spirit,contained in the ships figurehead,a guardian that protected the ship and the sailors,drove away malicious sea spirits and ultimatley,should the ship sink,escorted the souls of the drowned to the Underworld.Guardian,portector and psychopomp..container of the soul of any ship and the souls of those who sailed in it.

And in this dream the Ferryman rode the waves on the prow of the boat that sailed to the Underworld.....Hence the name..
