The Yew tree,sometimes called the Death Tree,holds a sacred place in many cultures,including Germanic and Celtic.

For some this is the ancestral tree,commonly planted in older churchyards,or remaining from pre-christian pagan sites,and believed to be a guardian and gateway to the dead.It's said that Celtic chieftains and wisemen were buried beneath the Yew in the hope that thier wisdom would be retained in the tree for future generations.

There are some that claim the Germanic World Tree was a Yew and not an Ash,as commonly held..either way you cannot dismiss the fact that all parts of the yew are highly toxic and ,so some say,naracotic.A tree favoured by the shamanic element of many cultures,perhaps for it's very toxicity.

Know as the Immortals,yew trees are some of the oldest living things on the planet and have the ability to rejuventae themselves,one tree growing inside the older hollowed tree.They twist with age..into sinister and eldritch forms,human faces and mythical beasts are seen in the bark..it's little wonder then that our ancestors saw their beloved dead in the Yew Tree and used it as a gateway tree..for ancestral communication and rites of honouring.

 

We only use churchyard yew in the making of our wands and charms,and we only use the oldest of these.Consequently yew wood wands are often twisted,bearing strange gnarls and eldritch "faces"...this new range of wands is no different,strangely twisted,knotted and gnarled..but all very beautiful in a strange way..and all of them very,very powerful

Beautiful and unique twisted yew wood wand..crafted to retain it's bark along with the beautiful colouring and patterning.

Yew bark is rough and tends to flake in small scales..when sanded it comes off as a fine dust,leaving behind this wonderfully rich red/brown colour and the natural patterning.

this is a gorgeous piece..naturally twisted and characteristically gnnarled and measuring 53,5 cms in length and just on 6cms in circumference.

A wonderful and immensley powerful wand...something of a rarity and very precious.

Beautiful dark twisted English churchyard yew wood wand with wonderful graiing and two fine sets of gnarls with lots more smaller single gnarls..

Despite the length this wood has been in drying,it's still managed to retain green tinging about the gnarls...giving it a unique and quite beautiful character and appearance.

This particular wand has a small copper ring attached to the top,from which hangs the handbraided deep red cord.

This piece measures 49 cms in length excluding twists,and is 6 cms in circumference.A fine strong wand..and a rare piece.

Creamy pale wood with an almost waxy appearance.A very nice wand with several eldritch gnarls in a darker contrast.

A most curious piece..naturally wavred,gnarled,knobbled and possessing a darker streak along part of it's length,this is a very disticntive wand,presenting virtually all the common characteristics of yew wood in the one piece.

A larger piece..and very beautiful with it.A power wand,measuring  61 cms overall length and 7cms in circumference.

A wonderful thing,naturally twisted by nature and streaked with golden pigmentation.Old yew wood,wood that has stood for centuries over the dead,guardian and gateway.

 

 

This wand has been strung on a handbraided nine thread cord in deep red and black and has  a small copper ring attached to the top from which hang three raven feathers.

 Enkel: Winterfylleth Small Dark Yew

Gorgeously gnarled old yew wood..crafted to retain it's bark and wonderful characteristic features.

Enkel means two things..Grandchild and Little Ancestor,since our earliest ancestors believed that family members would be reborn back into the same family or tribe so grandchildren were also ancestral.Perhaps a little hard to comprehend for the modern mind.

Gnarled and nobbled,this is a fine piece with beautiful red/brown wood with marvellous graining.One sideof this wand,shown below,is smoother than the other..so you have a good mixture of features.
