Pretty little blackthorn crossed wood charm..but perhaps it's prettiness is somewhat deceptive..to the experienced eye,it's meaning is very clear.

 

Wood crossed in the traditional "X"means just one thing...stay out...not welcome..stop.Still seen today in street  and traffic signs indicating no access..and as hazardous warning signs.

Startling and perhaps somewhat sinister oak wood charm..the wood for this charm having been gathered at All Hallows 2007.

 

This is a wonderful thing..skeletal oak wood,deeply grained, pitted and scarred,twisted and gnarled..yet this wood was livewood,the forces of nature have made it what it is.

The Jagger,the Wildhuntsman, is a common underlying theme in traditional crafts.The Wildhunt exists in the mythology of many cultures,said to be Wodan or Odhinn,sometimes Hel or even both riding out to gather the souls of the dead.Of course the Hunt has been demonised in later christian mythology and the huntsman said to be simply the "devil"gathering the souls of "sinners"......but to the pagan mind it may well have been an honour to ride the Wildhunt.The concept of the hunt is ingained in the minds of most traditional crafts and it's symbolism is near impossible to explain in words..but it is ancient,far preceeding the hedge consciouness of the enclosure,back to the Hunter Gatherers and the primal gods of the forest.

Traditional beliefs say that the Hunt leaves the Alder Grove at All Hallows and returns before first light,having gathered the souls of those who are to die...generations of God fearing people have blocked their chimneys and shuttered their windows for fear of the hunt and the ghostly baying of the Wish Hounds,children born at the stroke of midnight or on the eigth hour..Chime children.. were blessed or maybe cursed to hear the Hunt as it rode out..and to see the dead walking between worlds. And yet on the night the Hunt rides out,disorder rules,trickery and guise abounds,shades and ghosts and otherworldy beings slip silently into the world of man..Witches Night,when the gates between worlds are passable and the Jagger rides out.

 

This might be the mask of the Jagger..and it's a wonderful thing to adorn any night of mischief.

Journey guarded and return home safely..unique handcrafted elder wood traveller's amulets..each amulet is hollowed out and filled with a selection of protective herbs..including elder beries,rowan berries,yarrow,ash leaf,broom ,heather flowers and mandrake root.

Bound at each end with red thread,these amulets are fitted with a copper ring and a handbraided red cotton cord with which to hang them.

Briar Rose Wood Svefnthorn Runic Charm

The Svenfthorn..or Sleepthorn..a set of runestaves to being sleep...

These are very old runic staves..four of them,scribed along the length of the charm.This charm is wild briar rose wood,bark on and and retaining all the natural rustic features common to briar rose wood.

This is a hanging charm and it hangs by means of a small copper ring and a handbraided red and black cord.Hang it over the bed or beneath the pillow to bring sleep to the sleepless..or over anothers bed for an altogether much more enchanting reason.

The sleepthorn is said to bring sleep..though in traditional witchcraft it also has a much more arcane significance.This is the set of stave used by Wodan,mythology tells us,to cast enchanted sleep.Which is all very useful..if you happen to have enchantment in mind.

Beautiful Druid's Oak charm..the wood for this charm was taken on Ynys Mon or Anglesey Island on Midsummer's eve 2008,when the oak is at the apex of it's power.

This is a wonderful charm,angle cut to the top with a sharply pointed tip,medium oak in colour and deeply grained.

Towards the top is a naturally occuring gnarl,and about this the universal symbol of the Horned God has been scribed in oak gall ink.

This piece measures just under 14 cms in length and is just under 5cms in circumference.Like all Wyldewood charms and wands,it's totally unique.

Wolfsangel Warding Charm

Dark hazel wood warding charm scribe with the Wolfangel runic symbol.

Runic symbols are medieval in origin and are based on the original runic staves and used during  a time when the runes were banned by the Christian church.Each runic synbol often incorporates several runic staves in it's interpretaion.They were not used in rune casting but reserved for magical works,protection and healing.

The Wolfsangel is one of these symbols,it differs in shape and form from the original Wolfsangel and was used to protect from negative energies and to bind and eliminate harmful influences.
