Witchwood..or the rowan tree.

Alias Quickenwood,Quickbane and Mountain Ash.

A universally popular wood and one considered to be highly protective.For centuries rural folk have hung rowan branches or included rowan wood in their lintels,cradles,crossbeams or simply hung the berries above the door believing that rowan wood  would stave off and repel any form of magical or malicious attack.

Nothing malicious,it's said,can cross where rowan hangs...neither witch,fairy or disease.A most fortunate tree wherever it is planted or happens to grow..especially  a lone rowan tree,which was,it's said the gateway to Elfhame.

Because rowan is not just a great source of protection,it's also a highly magical tree,being that folk lore places it firmly in both worlds..here and there,a tree of the Otherworld,happily growing in both worlds.

Rowan wands are power wands,capable of deflecting and repelling magical and psychic attack,of protecting their users during any form of magical work..fine wands for those practising as part of a ring where petty jealousies or power struggles occur..and excellent forms of protection for solo practitioners..against whatever you might encounter,be it human or not.

Rowan wood is gathered on a single day in the year and must last throughout the coming year,Old Holy Rood Day,or to be precise and less christian about it..13th May,and always from a different tree or group of trees each year..tradition dictates that you must go home via a different route than the one taken going out..so the gathering  Rowan wood is no easy job of work and the distance travelled  to collect it becomes further and further every year.

And one other thing...it's considered very misfortunate should the tree that gave the wood for your specific charms die...or be cut down.Always ensure that any rowan wood wand or charm you buy comes from a still living tree..if it does not,and the tree has been cut down or the wood was bought from a wood yard,then it will be less than useless to you..it might even be detrimental.We ensure our rowan wood is cut from strong healthy trees..and none of them are harmed in the taking of the wood.

Rowan wood can vary in colour from pale creamy white to a deep amber shade depending on the crafting.All the colours you see in the wands we craft are entirely natural..the deeper shades resulting from the pigments of the inner bark drying onto the stripped wood.

All rowan wands are strung on a tri coloured cords unless otherwise stated.

Forked Rowan Wand

Beautiful naturally coloured forked rowan wood wand.

A rare piece,naturally forked and bearing all the characteristic features you might expect of rowan.

This wand is a wonderful pale amber colour resulting from the pigmentation of the bark and measures 62 cms in length from the pointed ends of the forks to the  tip.the span between the forks at the widest point is 12cms.

Like all forked wands the weight resides oin the tipped end,making it very well balamced in the hand.

Sun Cross Red Rowan

Beautifully crafted red rowan wand..scribed with the symbel of the Sun Cross.

This love;ly wand has been painstakingly stripped of it's outer bark and dried with the inner bark intact to produce this wonderfully rich chestnut red colouring.A small section of the inner bark has been removed to house the Sun Cross symble near the top.

Now it has to be said that there are many many manifestations of the Sun Cross..this is just ione of them and the one commonly used at the Briar Rose..the sun depicted at High Noon..or at Midsummer..at the apex of it's power,overlain over the Goblin's Cross.

 

A tremendously positive force,the inherant power and traditional significance of the wood combined with the most reverred of sun symbols...
